Pro Beam Tactical cable

ProBeam is a fiber connector designed for use in temporary connections. Originally, the system was developed for military applications, but now the industry has also discovered this very robust contact.

ProBeam is resistant to heavy mechanical stresses and is waterproof. Another advantage is that the connection can be made by persons without prior knowledge of fiber. Cleaning is also easy; Normally rinsing in water is sufficient. This eliminates the need for special cleaning equipment, as all other fiber connectors rely on to function optimally.

A typical system consists of a field cable with plug at both ends. The ends are connected to ProBeam panel connectors with transition to standard fiber connectors. The panel connectors are typically mounted in the wall of a cabinet, side of container, or similar. The ProBeam connectors can also be connected to each other so that you can easily extend a cable tie by connecting an additional length.

The field cable can be delivered to drums designed specifically for field use. These are available in different sizes, with different capacity. A useful feature is that the plugs are protected inside the center of the drums when not in use.

ProBeam is available in two sizes, junior and senior. Junior has 2 or 4 channels and the senior has 2, 4 or 8 channels. All variants can be delivered as single or multi mode.

For harsh environments

What makes the system so robust is the use of so-called ball lenses. The technique is often referred to as expanded beam. The ball lines enlarge the light beam so that the effect of contamination is significantly reduced. As the image below illustrates, the light spreads beyond a much larger surface than in conventional fiber contacts, where even small particles can actually stop the signal completely.

This makes the system highly resistant to contaminants, but the production of the contacts requires very high accuracy. If the beam of light hits slanting on the lens, the attenuation will be very high.

Foss Fibre Optics buys quality components from TE and compiles in own production in Drammen. Due to local production, customer-specific solutions can be delivered at short notice.
