OTDR testing

An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is used to test, document and troubleshoot fiber optic links. It provides information about events along the fiber, including connectors, splices, reflections, attenuation and breaks.

Foss offers selected VIAVI OTDR solutions for both single-mode and multimode networks.

Fiber inspection

Contamination and damage to fiber connector end faces can cause insertion loss, reflections and unstable connections. Inspection should therefore be an important part of fiber installation and maintenance.

Foss offers VIAVI digital fiber inspection microscopes including P5000i and FiberChek Probe.

The inspection systems can provide automated analysis of fiber connector end faces and pass/fail evaluation, helping technicians achieve consistent and documented inspection results.

Optical power and loss testing

Optical power meters, light sources and test kits are used to verify optical power levels and measure insertion loss in fiber optic links.

Visual fault location

For quick identification of faults in fiber optic links, a Visual Fault Locator (VFL) can be used to inject visible light into the fiber.

A VFL can help locate fiber breaks, severe bends and other faults over shorter distances and is a useful tool for installation and troubleshooting.
