The system is designed and certified for military purposes, but is used in a number of contexts where impurities are a problem. The plugs are hermaphroditic so that multiple fiber cables can be daisy chained. Probeam contacts whith expanded beam technology is an extremely robust fiber connector for rough environments, the connector is insensitive to dust and dirt and easy to clean. Connecting/disconnecting can be done by untrained personnel.

A ProBeam system normally consists of a given length of tactical cable with a ProBeam jr. plug in each end. This is connected to the ProBeam Jr. panel connectors, which are normally mounted on a wall. The other end of the panel connectors come with a length of data cable with a standard data connector like SC for the internal cabling.
